Ford International Professor of Economics. Contributed to many areas of macroeconomics and international economics, including consumption fluctuations, the theory of investment, models of speculation, international financial crises, and the theory of business cycles and unemployment. Was a visiting scholar and consultant at the European Central Bank, the Federal Reserve Board, the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, as well as at central banks and government institutions throughout the world. Involved in Latin American economic policy and was associate editor of the Journal of Monetary Economics, Cuadernos de Econom?a, and Revista de An?lisis Econ?mico. Honors include the 2002 Frisch Medal of the Econometric Society and the 2009 Smith Breeden Prize by the American Finance Association.
