He is retired Chairman and CEO of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. and the Equitable Life Assurance Society. He remains active as an Overseer of Harvard University and Director of the Duke Endowment, in addition to various corporate and not for profit affiliations. He has recently authored a book, Adventures With Old Houses, describing his second career as a preservationist and collector of historic houses and American antiques of the 18th and early 19th centuries.
