Robert Full's research focuses on integrative biomechanics, neuromuscular control systems, and robotics. He promotes bioinspiration as the basis for analyzing such animal phenomena as locomotion, and for those analyses to inform engineers in the development of biomimetic materials, such as fibrillar adhesives inspired by geckos, and various devices such as legged robots serving a diversity of functions including search-and-rescue. His research bridges several subfields of biology, engineering, and other domains. He is a dedicated educator who performs service by informing the public, agencies, and congress about the nature and applications of biological research.
