His modeling of concepts and categories are the standards to which all others are compared -- his 1984, 1986, articles have 2400+ citations; his GCM model is based on similarity and attention learning, provides a unified account of categorization, identification and recognition, and pioneered the joint use of sophisticated similarity scaling techniques and cognitive-process models. His models predict both accuracy and response time in tasks such as automaticity, visual working memory, short-term memory, and categorization and recognition in patients with amnesia. Honors include the National Academy of Sciences Troland Research Award and the Society of Experimental Psychologists Warren Medal.
