Dr. Rando's research interest was largely in the area of molecular vision science, and the overall interest was in defining the dynamics of vertebrate vision in chemical and molecular terms. His laboratory focus was on understanding the biochemical and regulatory elements that underlie the fundamental problems of visual pigment processing and visual adaptation. Novel methods were introduced to identify and probe the structure and function of previously intractable and mechanistically unusual membrane-bound enzymes essential for human vision.
