Research focuses on tribal groups of the Amazon and Central Brazil, and the analysis of national rituals, ceremonies and myths of Latin America, Brazil and the United States, focusing in such themes as carnivals, citizenship, sports, popular music, national heroes and values, foundational narratives, conceptions of urban poverty, the symbolism animals, and popular lottery. In addition, he has produced 11 books, two television national series, and hundreds of essays on anthropological, cultural and literary aspects of Brazil as culture, national State and society.
