Leading theoretician regarding the subjects of gender, law and literature, and constitutional law. Known for work in the ethic of care and feminist legal theory. Research is primarily concerned with feminist legal theory, constitutional law and theory, philosophy of law, and the law and literature movement. Author of numerous articles on gender issues and feminist legal theory, jurisprudence, legal philosophy, and law and literature, including the books Normative Jurisprudence and Caring for Justice; a critique of economic reasoning and the law in the Harvard Law Review; and the 1988 article, Jurisprudence and Gender.
