Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology and Professor in the Committee on Genetics. Pioneered the identification of genes required for meiosis in budding yeast and developed genetic tools to analyze mechanisms regulating genetic recombination and chromosome segregation. Isolated key controlling genes for meiotic progression, established the requirement of recombination for chromosome segregation, and provided the paradigm for further studies of meiosis.
