Research spans both macroeconomic and microeconomic topics, such as inflation, growth and income distribution, political economy, and the socioeconomic structure of cities. His most recent research is in behavioral economics and centers on two main areas. The first one focuses on the determinants of prosocial behavior and interations between extrinsic incentives and intrinsic motivations. The second concerns the origins and persistence of belief distortions such as overconfidence, groupthink and ideology. Served or currently serves on the editorial board of numerous journals including the Review of Economic Studies, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Economic Growth and the Journal of the European Economic Association.
