Professor Ronald A. DeVore is the Walter E. Koss Professor and Distinguished Professor at Texas A&M University and the Robert L. Sumwalt Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina. He is a developer of techniques for approximation including nonlinear approximation, wavelets, splines, neural networks, and n-widths. Additionally, he is a developer of functional analytical methods for the study of linear operators including maximal functions and K-functionals. His application areas include numerical methods for partial differential equations, signal and image processing, and computer aided geometrical design. Professor DeVore recieved awards such as the Bulgarian Gold Medal of Science, Humboldt Prize, ICS Hot Paper Award, and the SPIE Wavelet Pioneer Award. He is also a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, fellow of the American Mathematical Society, and former Chair of the Society for the Foundations of Computational Mathematics.
