Member of the International Court of Justice since 1995. Previously Professor of International Law at London University (1981-95) and member of the U.N.'s Committee on Human Rights. A Q.C., she was counsel in many important international law cases, including East Timor and Lockerbie. Author of publications, she delivered the 1991 general course on international law at the Hague Academy.
