Russell Hardin is professor of politics at New York University. He edited the journal Ethics (University of Chicago) for a decade and has been a distinguished professor at both Stanford and NYU. His areas of research include Rational choice, collective action, morality behind the law, moral and political philosophy. Hardin has authored many books on ethics and social theory, including Indeterminacy and Society (Princeton University Press, 2003), Trust and Trustworthiness (Russell Sage Foundation, 2002), and Liberalism, Constitutionalism, and Democracy (Oxford University Press, 1999).    He was a Rhodes Scholar, a Guggenheim Fellow, and he has been honored by the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences.
