Jeanne and Sanford Robertson Professor, Director, Center for Neurobiology and Psychiatry. Scientist and psychiatrist who brought together the once-disparate fields of neuroscience and psychiatry as a researcher, author, and builder of interdisciplinary programs. Helped prove brain protein synthesis is required for long-term memory. Discovered discoidins and galectins (galactoside-binding proteins; discovery honored by the Hermann Stillmark Medal from Estonia, 1988). Wrote Molecules and Mental Illness (1993), Mood Genes (1998), and Better Than Prozac (2003).
