Retired as Vice President for the Harvard Library in 2019.  First woman and non-British citizen to head the Bodleian Libraries, the largest university library system in the United Kingdom, and one of the world's major research libraries. Under her leadership, the Bodleian Libraries were awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2010 for the excellence of their collections and their efforts in widening access to their historic collections. Earlier, while at the Library of Congress, led the establishment of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging. Served as president of the Association of Research Libraries. During her tenure as Cornell's University Librarian, that library was honored with the Association of College Research Libraries Excellence in Academic Libraries award. Other recognitions include the Melvil Dewey Award from the American Library Association, the Simmons College Alumni Achievement Award, and the Smith Medal from Smith College.  Serves as Trustee of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and OCLC.
