University Professor Emeritus, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Authority on the ecology, evolution and genetics of reproductive systems in flowering plants. Established the primary mechanisms governing evolutionary transitions in reproductive systems and developed a functional approach to angiosperm reproduction in which mating and its consequence are interpreted within the broader context of life-history evolution. Elected to the fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada and London and an International Member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA. Recipient of the Sewall Wright Award given by the American Society of Naturalists and Linnean Society Darwin-Wallace award.
