Stephen Engelberg was the founding managing editor of ProPublica, the online, non-profit investigative news organization, founded in 2008. He became editor-in-chief in 2013. Under his leadership, ProPublica became the first online news-organization to win a Pulitzer Prize. In an era of media shrinkage, ProPublica has become indispensable. It has earned great credibility and has broken many important stories, sometimes in partnership with other news organizations. Engelberg himself has a long history as a prize-winning investigative reporter. In 18 years at The New York Times, he was the first editor of the newspaper's investigative unit and supervised several Pulitzer Prize-winning projects.
