Sterlin B. Harjo

Sterlin Harjo is an award-winning writer, director, producer, and documentarian;  he is a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and a Muscogee descendant, 

Harjo's first feature documentary, This May Be the Last Time, is based on the story of his grandfather, who disappeared in 1962 in the Seminole County town of Sasakwa, Oklahoma.  His first feature film, Four Sheets To The Wind, premiered at Sundance and was nominated for the grand jury prize. His numerous other credits include the feature Mekko; the FX comedy-drama Reservation Dogs; the screenplay for Rez Ball, which was released on Netflix in 2024; and most recently, the FX crime-comedy-drama The Lowdown.

Harjo is also a founding member of a five-member Native American skit comedy group, the 1491s, as well as being one of the directors of the Cherokee Nation's monthly television news magazine, Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People.

Harjo in 2023 won a Peabody Award for his work on Reservation Dogs and in 2024 received a MacArthur Fellowship. He received a B.A. in Film and Media Studies from the University of Oklahoma.
