Elucidated how the evolutionary trajectories of complex traits (morphology, physiology, behavior) are determined by fundamental evolutionary processes (inheritance, mutation, selection, migration and drift). Helped develop methods for quantifying natural and sexual selection. Outlined the conceptual basis for integrating organismal form with organismal function (performance and fitness). Summarized the field of evolutionary quantitative genetics and presented a new synthesis in his 2023 book Evolutionary Quantitative Genetics.
