Rabin has made fundamental contributions to information security and is a leader in cryptographic research in industry. Her results in verifiable secret sharing and multi-party protocols are cornerstones in information-theoretic security. Her results on asynchronous Byzantine agreement provide an optimal solution to the most important problem in distributed computation. Her counter-intuitive results on secure protocol composability have enlightened security design. Thanks to her pioneering works with over 3000 citations, threshold and proactive cryptography have been recognized by the US National Research Council in its report to Congress as exactly the right primitives to build distributed systems that are more secure.
