Thomas E. Mallouk

University of Pennsylvania
Materials chemist; Educator; Academic research administrator
Area
Mathematical and Physical Sciences
Specialty
Chemistry
Elected
2009
Chemist who specializes in the synthesis of nanoscale materials and their applications in photochemical and electrochemical energy conversion, low-dimensional physical phenomena, catalysis, environmental remediation, and motion on the nanoscale.  Mallouk developed the first rapid screening methods for electrocatalysts that are used in fuel cells, electrolyzers, and chemical sensors, and the first molecule-based solar cells for splitting water with visible light.
