Oversees one of the leading arts institutions in the United States and the world, with a collection of more that 260,000 objects and a staff of over 260 employees. Has been a distinguished curator and institutional leader at the Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery at the Smithsonian. Among his notable exhibitions was Timur and the Princely Vision a comprehensive examination of the art of the Timurid empire. Currently he serves on several advisory committees including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Council of American Overseas Centers Executive Committee; the Japan Society Gallery Art Advisory Committee and the Committee to Visit the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
