Vera Serganova's main contribution is to representation theory of Lie superalgebras. She obtained an algorithm for calculating characters of irreducible representations of basic superalgebras using geometry of flag supermanifolds, proved Kac-Wakimoto conjecture about super dimension of an irreducible representation, classified non-symmetrizable Kac-Moody superalgebras of finite growth and obtained characters of strongly Integrable representations. She also gave a definition of abstract root system for simple Lie superalgebras. Serganova also teaches middle and high school students at the Berkeley Math Circle.
