Professor William J. Courtenay is the C. H. Haskins Professor Emertius and Hilldale Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests at present are medieval universities, especially the University of Paris; French social and political history in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries; medieval philosophy and theology; medieval monasticism; and medieval church history. Some of his publications include "Adam Wodeham: An Introduction to His Life and Writings," "Covenant and Causality in Medieval Thought: Studies in Philosophy, Theology, and Economic Practice," and "Changing Approaches to Fourteenth-Century Thought."
