Yemane Asmerom

Yemane Asmerom is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico, and the Founder and Director of the university's Radiogenic Isotope Laboratory. Asmerom's research interests range from understanding the early development of the Solar System through radiogenic isotopes to tracking climate change. He has made seminal contributions in various areas of research, from the study of climate change and sea level change to the evolution of the solid earth and early solar system utilizing radiogenic isotopes. 

In addition to his election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union, the Geochemical Society, the Geological Society of America, and the European Association of Geochemistry.

Asmerom received a B.A. in Philosophy and Chemistry from St. Louis University, an M.S. in Geology from Eastern Washington University, and a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from the University of Arizona.
