Josh Huang is Distinguished Professor in Neuroscience, Professor of Neurobiology, and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Duke School of Medicine. Previously he was Charles and Marie Robertson Professor of Neuroscience at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

The focus of the Huang lab is studying the development and function of cortical circuits underlying motor control and cognitive processing. Their research program integrates multi-faceted approaches from genetic engineering to single-cell genomics, developmental neurobiology, imaging, electrophysiology, and behavioral analyses, and aims to link fundamental neuroscience to the understanding and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.

In 2021, he received an NIH Director's Pioneer Award in recognition of his efforts "to understand the general principles of neural circuit organization of cerebral cortex that enable cognitive function through a genetic dissection of its basic elements, the neuronal cell types." Previously, he received a McKnight Scholar Award in Neuroscience, a Pew Scholar Award, and was a Distinguished Investigator of NARSAD-Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
