Bahrani has an impactful career as is demonstrated by a book associated with an exhibition she curated, where one reviewer wrote the book essentially re-wr[ote] the history of archaeology of the eastern Mediterranean in the 19th century by including Ottoman material for the first time. Her books have won among the most prestigious prizes, including the Breasted and Trilling awards. She is the fourth woman elected Slade Professor at Oxford since 1869. She now works to document monuments of all types in Mesopotamia, in the hopes of preserving them for future generations, even in war zones and at personal risk.
