Archives of the American Academy
"As a living, breathing part of the Academy, the Archives will record whether and how the Academy lives up to its noble aspirations."
Don M. Randel, Chair Emeritus of the Board of the American Academy, in Advancing Knowledge: Selections from the Archives of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences (2015)
The Archives of the Academy offers almost 250 years of documented history. Explore our finding aids, highlighted materials, and online galleries below.
The Academy Welcomes New Members
As the Academy welcomes its new class of Members for 2019, the Archives celebrates the rich history and tradition they join. Some things never change, like the tradition of members writing in accepting their election to the Academy — though the current delivery and form of Acceptance Letters may look different from the 18th century. Others, such as the nominations and elections process, have changed rather significantly over the years. We invite you to explore a selection of featured galleries below in honor of our Class of 2019.
