Served as Chairman and President of Edison International and Southern California Edison from 1990 until 2008. He is also a director of The Boeing Company, W. M. Keck Foundation, and The Walt Disney Company; a trustee of California Institute of Technology, chairman of the Public Policy Institute of California, and co-Chair of the Pacific Council on International Policy. He serves or has served on a number of educational, environmental, and other nonprofit boards, including his tenure as chairman of the California Business Roundtable and as a trustee of Stanford University. He served as president of the California Public Utilities Commission and chairman of the California State Water Resources Control Board. After graduation from Yale Law School, he was a co-founder and attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council.
