Yu truly stands alone as a landscape architect in Asia when one regards the impact of his publications and built works. In addition to his educational efforts, he has garnered the field's top-level awards and recognition worldwide, including twelve ASLA awards. A farmer's son, Yu returned to China after receiving a doctoral degree at Harvard to work with the public and the government to fight the environmental degradation caused by reckless development. His projects in over 200 cities have been lauded as much for their beauty as for their commitment to social justice and environmental stewardship.
