Leo L Beranek, was president of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences from 1989 to 1994, was president of Bolt Beranek and Newman from 1952 to 1971. An acoustics expert and former MIT professor, he is the author of Concert and Opera Halls: Music, Acoustics, and Architecture. Awarded the National Medal of Science in 2002, he was formerly Chairman of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, member of the Harvard Board of Overseers, and president of the World Affairs Council of Boston. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 1952.
