Michelle McCauley

Michelle McCauley is Executive Vice President and Provost at Middlebury College, where she leads academic strategy and operations across a multidivision higher education enterprise spanning undergraduate and graduate education, global language study abroad at 37 sites, the Bread Loaf School of English and Writers’ Conference, and applied research and practice centers–including the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, the Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism, and the Kathryn Wasserman Davis Collaborative in Conflict Transformation, of which she was the inaugural director. She came to this role through the faculty and continues to teach and direct Middlebury’s Conservation Psychology Lab, where her research focuses on environmental engagement, decisionmaking, and behavior change. Her administrative work has centered on embedding AI, data, and intercultural fluencies alongside conflict transformation capacity. As provost she secured a $3 million endowment to begin building AI capacity among faculty and students and overseeing the full formalization and endowing of the midd.data initiative, translating those commitments into institutional infrastructure.
