Dr. Norman Jay Ornstein is a Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and is a columnist and contributing editor for The Atlantic. In addition, he is Chairman of the Campaign Legal Center, served as a senior counselor to the Continuity of Government Commission, a convener of the Campaign Finance Reform Working Group, and a coauthor of Vital Statistics on Congress. He has illuminated the complexities of policy making in Washington, through numerous books, research studies, and commentaries for national television. One of his books, It's Even Worse Than it Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided with the New Politics of Extremism (with Tom Mann), was named Book of the Year by Ezra Klein's Wonkblog, one of the ten best books on politics of 2012 by The New Yorker, one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, and a New York Times bestseller. Before It's Even Worse Than it Looks, his book with Tom Mann, The Broken Branch: How Congress is Failing America and How to Get it Back on Track, was named by the Washington Post as one of the best books of 2006 and called "a classic" by The Economist. His latest book, One Nation After Trump: A Guide for the Perplexed, the Disillusioned, the Desperate and the Not-Yet-Deported, with EJ Dionne and Tom Mann, was an instant New York Times and Washington Post best seller.
