Sonia Manzano has affected the lives of children and parents since the 1970’s when she was asked to play the role of Maria on Sesame Street. New York City stage work includes the original production of Godspell, productions of Vagina Monologues, The Exonerated, and Love Loss and What I Wore. Manzano has also earned fifteen Emmys as a staff writer for Sesame Street. Manzano is proud to have had three picture books published by Simon and Schuster (No Dogs Allowed, A Box Full Of Kittens and Miracle on 133rd Street) and two books published by Scholastic (The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano, Becoming Maria: Love and Chaos in the South Bronx). She received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards May 1, 2016 and continues to write for Scholastic.
