Robert J. Birgeneau to Lead American Academy Lincoln Project: Excellence and Access in Public Higher Education

Maxine Hong Kingston is awarded the Academy’s Emerson-Thoreau medal, which was first given to Robert Frost in 1958 and has since been presented to other notable authors such as T.S. Eliot, Hannah Arendt, Norman Mailer, Toni Morrison, and Margaret Atwood.

Anna Deavere Smith is many things: an actress, playwright, author, and founding director of the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue at New York University, where she is also University Professor at Tisch School of the Arts.
