What is the role of artificial intelligence and other key technologies in America’s national security and how can we defend against their malign use? At this webinar, co-founder of Schmidt Futures and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, now chair of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, joined Norman Augustine, retired CEO and chairman of Lockheed Martin, and John Hennessy, former president of Stanford University and chairman of the board of directors for Alphabet Inc., for a discussion on the power and limits of AI technologies and their impact on our economy, national security, and welfare.

This event was a follow-up to an earlier Civic Scientist webinar on the “Perils of Complacency: America at a Tipping Point in Science and Engineering,” a joint report from the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the Baker Institute that examined challenges to America’s leadership in science, engineering, technology, and innovation.

Both events were part of the Civic Scientist Lecture Series, which is sponsored by the Baker Institute’s Science and Technology Policy Program with generous support from Benjamin and Winifer Cheng.
