This virtual program launched The Perils of Complacency: America at a Tipping Point in Science & Engineering, a new report from the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and The Baker Institute for Public Policy that assesses progress and setbacks in the five years since the Academy’s last report on the importance of investing in research, Restoring the Foundation: The Vital Role of Research in Preserving the American Dream. Norm Augustine, Neal Lane, and Jeannette Wing led a discussion moderated by Nancy Andrews on the new report, concerns about America falling behind, and policies that could help ensure the United States secures its strong position of global leadership in discovery and innovation.
